Whenever I think of Gordon I will always remember the Eddie Stobart collection book he got me. I can't say I completed it but it definitely sparked my short lived interest in Lorry driving! Also, he would always shake my hand extremely hard when I was younger!! Both rather random memories but they will always stick with me. He was always great company and had interesting stories to tell. He'll be missed. Matthew.

Uncle Gordon, and Auntie Liz, were always very kind to us and would help us out at the drop of a hat. Growing up, I remember Uncle Gordon as a friendly and fun uncle (like all the Pittards) and I got to spend more time with him when we worked together in the shop at Hythe. Both he and Auntie LIz were always welcoming to us and we spent many enjoyable hours in their company at Walsall during our time at uni. Later, we enjoyed visiting their new house in Alcester and seeing the renovations progress. When we emigrated, we passed lots of plants, and a pair of steel toe-capped wellingtons, to Uncle Gordon as we knew they would be loved and tended. We were able to catch up with him and Auntie Liz when we made trips back to England, if not in person, then by phone. He showed the same kindness to my daughter when she was visiting the UK in 2019, giving her plenty to laugh about when telling old stories of Pittard (mis)adventures. I will really miss Gordon, Especially having banter with him. He would come into the shop every time he came back from a holiday, pull out his arm just to prove who was the darkest. Yes always Gordon lol. He would pop in to say hi when he was passing and if the sun was out, just to say he was sat in garden, or allotment And I was stuck in shop. As he knew I loved the sun as much as him. Always such a happy guy with a smile on his face. I remember saying to liz a few years ago, He must of been a really good looking guy when he was younger, you could just tell. Will miss him xx

I will always remember my times spent in the various Fish and Chip shops that Liz and Gordon ran together. Always willing (I think) to help out with various duties in the shop, from using the potato peeler, battering fish, sitting on a stool at the counter to operate the till. I would often eat the cold chips which were left at the end of the shift. Gordon once bought a live eel which was swimming around in the back kitchen sink until he chopped his head off and he showed me it could still swim with no head - think I've had nightmares ever since! My proudest moment was when Gordon agreed to 'Give me away' at my wedding day, Lorraine and Melanie were also Bridesmaids so it really was a family affair. I can still remember the day and the eventful evening reception as if it was yesterday!! At all of our family get togethers, you could always rely on Gordon at the boot of his car to provide the boiling water for endless cups of teas/coffees from his portable gas stove; he was in his element then and the men would all congregate around him; I can only imagine from all the giggling what was being talked about!! When I think of Gordon I think of growing up on Bleachfield Street. Gordon and his family were as much of a part of my life as my own family were. Melanie or Lorraine would sometimes babysit me and I was completely obsessed with their border collie, Shelley (I was convinced she could understand everything I said to her). It felt as though every Saturday for years was spent competitively playing brag for loose change! Everyone seemed to have their own special jar for all their coppers and the occasional bit of 'snow'. When we weren't playing cards I'd sit and watch (cringing through my fingers!) everyone get more and more soaked and it was only a matter of time before Tina Turner would be blasting out of the stereo (needless to say the poor neighbours sandwiched between the two houses moved away!). Mum and Gordon's love of Tina was very mutual :) Numerous barbecues, parties, any excuse for a celebration and Gordon and Liz were there, as essential to proceedings as the buffet and the gin (and Tina of course!) Eventually I grew up, as we do, and I moved up north but would frequently be back to visit my parents and seeing Gordon and Liz out on the drive or headed up the allotment was all part of that 'coming home' feel. When we lost mum a couple of years back, they were both there for dad and I, popping round to say hi and share a can or two (non alcoholic by this point!). It's hard to believe mum and Gordon are now both gone and we'll never have those raucous Saturday nights again but I'm so thankful for these memories. How lucky we are to have had all that time together.

If I had a voice today, I’d say Dear ones, please don’t cry, still love me but don’t grieve for me, it’s easy if you try. Don’t think of all that I won’t see, just think of what I’ve seen, think not of places I won’t go, but remember where I’ve been. I’ve lived, I’ve loved, I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, I’ve worked hard, that’s for sure, I’ve done my best, I’m satisfied, I couldn’t ask for more. I know not what becomes of me, nor what’s beyond today, if I had a choice I’d use my voice, but alas I’ve gone away. You have memories of me to enjoy, smile, laugh, be tough, you have loved me and enriched my life, I was happy, that’s enough.
